The Boys Club

Every lady that has been on the edge of greatness has faced the glass ceiling. Some have broke through it, and some have shattered the barrier. I think there may be another knocking on the glass.

If you were watching Saturday’s races at Santa Anita, you saw a glimpse of something special. The thing that makes us stand up and take notice of the game. The very essence that makes every two-dollar player smack their program against their leg, and yell for the finish line.

This lady is real. I first saw her at the Breeders’ Cup and I have to say that I had tears in my eyes. I watched her flow through time to stand in line, and her name etched with the greats. I guess having my biggest bet of the year on her nose made it that much sweeter.

Stardom Bound is going to face the boys. Yep, that’s right. The boys…. What else does she have to prove? In her time of racing, there is nothing left to prove against the gals. Ladies, you still have some of the best in the game. But one of your own is stepping up.

She scored like a scalded dog in the Las Virgenes, and now is heading to take on the colts in the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on April 4th. With luck in her corner, the next stop will be under the Twin Spires.

She overcame traffic, and Mike Smith found a seam you couldn’t throw a playing card through.  But the good ones always find a way to win. She is 4/6 with wins, and on her way. I can still see her making that 6 wide move just outside the 3/8ths pole and circling the field like they were tied to a rock.

Good luck young lady…
