If you were watching the Louisiana Derby, you got a glimpse of something special. Friesan Fire looks to be maturing and peaking at the right time. I think you will be hard pressed to find a fault with that effort.

Larry Jones brought this guy ready from his hands-on stable.

At the top of the lane, Gabriel Saez started drawing away from the field in the slop, and stamped his ticket for the first Saturday in May. This race showed versatility, and not needing to take your track with you on the way.

I have questions for the synthetic runners who will make that change over to the dirt. Only I Want Revenge has done so in my heart. But at the end of the day, Larry Jones has a mover. The way he plowed through the field with ease had to give you the confidence of a 3-year-old on the move.

I liked the way he finished out with ease. He has plenty in the tank, and that will come in handy that last 16th of a mile in Louisville. If the race were to be run today, you would have to have extreme confidence. I know that my opinion has changed, and he has gone from prospect, to the one to beat. If Larry Jones were playing poker, he would have so many aces in his hand, that he would need help to hold the cards. This could be a whole lot of fun to watch….
