Don’t Put Yourself In A Corner

It is this time of the year where horse players start backing their Derby play at the window right now. That could be a little bit early.

So far, I have seen some special things to note, and trust me I have watched more races than the average bear.

If you missed Friesan Fire in Louisiana, you may have missed a bunch. To run in the muddy conditions was another step up on the competition.  Most have been synthetic super stars, and as far as I know they have not put it in at Churchill Downs.

I Want Revenge went to the “Big A” and found another gear. He just worked 58.1 and is getting very well. The Wood will be a deeper field, and this should give him the finishing touches that allow him to step for the Derby.

Pioneer of the Nile is no stranger to the winner’s circle. The San Felipe was not his cup of tea, and Bob Baffert will bring this one run animal to his best, and it will be interesting to see who Garret Gomez will chose.

Dunkirk. You can sum it up in few words. This runner will make us second guess our handicapping style by wagering on a runner who has not run as a two-year-old. He is two for two, but the acid test comes this Saturday with the big dance in Florida. I think he will do himself proud.

There it is.. A few runners that have caught my eye.. Most of these runners have surpassed what Big Brown did last year, and that makes the handicapping a bit tougher. But that is where the fun is….. Best of luck, and don’t make any decisions yet. You may just miss something special.
