Everybody in the world of racing knows today is a biggie. Today is Florida Derby day, and the world is watching many, but in particular an allowance runner named Dunkirk.

The 9th race begins the Pick-4 so be sure to get a hold of your info and lay the smack down on this .50 cent wager. But our focus is on Race #10. This is the $750,000 Florida Derby.

Race #10 looks like Dunkirk’s reason to run the race of his life. All said and good, but there are some others that WinningPonies.com has an eye on. Let us begin with our top overall selection. Let’s get on board with Quality Road. He has shown a rateable ability for Jimmy Jerkins.  This son of Elusive Quality sports a DOUBLE ++ mark next to his rating, which means we are looking for his best effort. His race rating is a hot 63, and his last three yield a very rock solid 61. They have brought in a $2.6 million dollar rabbit named Europe to ensure a hot pace. But, he is on the outside and Quality Road draws a position closer to the rail. I think we will see something spectacular today. Johnny V. will make this his stamped ticket for Louisville, and many others will fall away from the Derby trail.

The other top tier runner that needs a look is #6 Theregoesjojo. This 3-year-old colt by Brahms sports a 60+ rating for this race, and a 61 for the last three efforts. This guy did not get away clean last out, and made a run that may have cost him lengths down the lane. If all goes well, Kent Desormeaux, who is fresh off a victory in last weeks Lane’s End, should improve greatly today. That + sign next to his rating is a good reminder that if the pace is hot, it could be lights out early for the others.

Both of the top tier runners have the “Should Improve” icon and jumping in class mark. The should improve is positive, and everyone is stepping up in class. But there is a double digit price runner in the top tier that can very easily do this field in today.

Let us take our last look at a 15-1 shot named Casey’s on Call. E.T Baird is in the saddle, and has a 60++ rating for today which means very good things are on the horizon, and that may be today. His last three come up to a 58, and this shows the improvement for today as he goes turf to dirt. I would look for a speedy effort today, and if the others fall apart, this colt could easily lay off the pace and trounce late in the lane.  He may be the horse to make your gimmicks pay a handsome sum.

Now, with the top tier runners, and knowing that the race prior begins the Pick-4, this may be an excellent chance to get fit. Today is going to be a proving ground, and there will many stories that will be told. We want yours to be about just how well you did, and hopefully a little insight into Derby fever.
