Complete Package

When I heard that Gary Stevens is going to have his own training operation, I was giddy like a kid. There is no person in my opinion that could be better suited to throw his hat in the ring.

Stevens who looked better on horseback than anyone I have ever seen, should bring a complete knowledge of what it takes to be a winner.

He has won the B/C races eight times, three Derbies, and has ridden in Great Britain. If you can think of someone that has been sought after as an analyst and consultant, and brings all of this experience to the table, you better snatch them up quick!

I love the way he cruised down the lane. I can never slight or cry about one of his rides. Well, I did have a heap of money on him in the Arlington Million aboard Storming Home when he fell off right at the wire. But, other than my whining about one incident, he is head and shoulders the best rider I have ever seen.

He knows what it takes to prepare for the big day. He knows what the good ones feel like in the morning. He knows what to say to a rider in the paddock to ensure the best trip. With all of that, what more could we ask for? I know other riders have turned to becoming a trainer, but few have been the complete package.

I can’t wait to see the first runner come from the Gary Stevens racing stable.
