If you watched the Haskell today, you have to start thinking about a big showdown. Where would we be without the great match-ups of our sport?

Today, Rachel Alexandra turned in a goose bump performance on a sloppy track at Monmouth Park in the Haskell.  She has beaten the males twice, and is swinging with an eight-in-a-row streak…

No doubt she is great. Maybe one of the greatest ever…

Jess Jackson doesn’t want to go to the Breeders’ Cup. He does not want her to run on plastic.. This is supposed to be the wave of the future, and California dictated to all tracks outside of fair circuits to have this new surface down to be open for business. Zenyatta rules the left coast, and running on synthetic is her game. I, and many fans would love to see them hookup and do battle. This could be the part where Seabiscuit takes on War Admiral. This is mega-marquee, and the game is screaming to see this.

Jess Jackson said today that they have never gotten to the bottom of Rachel as of yet. Maybe, they never will.. Well young lady, your public awaits. Let’s see who is better. That is what dreams are made of in sports.

Let’s see… How about Gulfstream after a winter off, and get them both back into stride? What about Oaklawn, and try the spring surface on for size? How about Churchill in the fall? Any and all would do… Let the public see these two square off and do battle..

Rachel became the first filly in 85 years to win the Preakness.  Zenyatta, you have to come to her..  If you are that good, and you are a beast, you have to step outside of your comfort zone and throw down. This may be what our sport needs right now… I think it is noble that Jackson wants to run next year with R.A…. But, there is business that needs to be finished.. Put her away, and you will go down in the ages. If Zenyatta wins, that will quiet the naysayers about California…

This is a needed match up.  Our sport has no dominant male victor, and this could be the year the ladies keep center stage.. Just think, you could be telling the next generation of player about the big matchup you once saw at Belmont Park; how two gals came to blows at Hawthorne; when the two best fillies to grace the oval put on the gloves at Saratoga…. Anywhere you have this race, the ratings will be through the roof, and the crowd will break through the gates.
