The Show Will Go On… [Free Selection]

This Saturday is the 140th running of the Travers Stakes. There will be no Derby winner, and the beast from the East, Rachel Alexandra will be skipping this round. One thing is for sure, the race will be fast, and it will be good.

There should be plenty of pace with the likes of Our Edge, ridden by Alan Garcia for Nick Zito. This colt looks good, but may be a little cheaper for this field, and the only way for him to get the gold, is to get on the Bill Daley and not look back. Overall, it is highly unlikely.

Kensei, the winner of the Jim Dandy, can enjoy the hot pace and pick ’em up at the 3/8th’s pole. He is 2/2 at Saratoga, and looks to be a nice stalker on the improve. Only time and distance will tell.

I could be wrong, and I won’t be alone. Summer Bird started running at the 3/8th’s pole last out. Now that is fine, if you are moving at your pace and starting to make headway. I saw him uncork and do everything in his power, just to keep up and run behind Rachel in the Haskell.  Trainer Tim Ice has done a great job, but I am looking for him to come up a little empty. If not, then I will have missed by a mile.

My choice is Quality Road. Incredible winner of the Florida Derby, and he has come back nicely to win the G-2 Amsterdam, after a horrible break. The fractions were torrid, and 13 days later, he came and worked a bullet. I think he is coming along at the right time.

Any which way the race turns out, it should and will be a good show. I think many have been targeting this time.
