Go West, Young Man…

That is the direction I will be headed. I travel under the banner of WinningPonies, and I cannot wait to play. It is like unwrapping a gift for a little kid, when it comes to contest playing for a handicapper.

When I first get there, I love to meet and see cappers from around the country, writers, bloggers, and owners of major Thoroughbred magazines.  We always talk about being there, and what has happened since we have last played. It is like a reunion, convention, marketing and publicity forum, and a gathering of friends. We all talk about what we have been doing for work, and it is about that time I get asked for a WinningPonies cap. They love the hat, and I get to tell them all about the site. I usually go to dinner nightly with marketing directors, and other industry professionals. The three days go by like a warm summer day……

I have begun to print out the early PP’s, and I will have WinningPonies data in hand at the work area located in The Orleans. This is a place to hook-up and print out your data, and send or receive information. Liken it to your local Kinko’s right near the action…I start to to get an idea of the first day or two, and I then wait until I can run it against the W/P data and see where it fits against the tier levels. This is how I play. I have had a degree of success at this particular contest, and I know it can go either way. That is the exciting part. I NEVER play live wagers as to not interfere with my contest play. I feel that they can conflict, and you find yourself out of sorts. I usually take the red-eye back on Sunday, and this allows me to play some NFL and make some pony plays.

If you have never played in a contest, I would keep this one on your list of places to go. The ability to use WinningPonies.com is a sweet tool. I like to have up to the minute data at hand, and if the track condition changes, no problem….I am covered, and I feel prepared. As I said, I can easily finish dead last, or I can put out their lights with some racing luck.  You can bet some of the best handicappers in the land will converge on Vegas during these times. Keep it on your bucket list as a racing fan. I don’t think you will be disappointed. Wish me luck……
