Churchill DownsThe Derby is in the books, but the beat goes on…. We are a week away from the Preakness, and there is no better time than now to build your bankroll.

Churchill Downs – 5/14/11

Race #2 – #2) Black Rhino – (2-1)

Son of El Corredor does pretty darn well with first timers. This gelding comes from the barn of the hot Wesley Ward, and has the services of Florida hot-hand Jeffrey Sanchez. I like the chances, and the four-furlong work gives him some gas in the tank.

Race #4 – #7) Sweet William – (8-5)

His sire, Bring the Heat, does well and once again, we are on a Wesley Ward trainee who is winning at 27% for his runners who won last out. His real test may be to throttle down his speed, and rate just off the pace. Ward can get them ready, and if this is the case it could be lights out.  Marcellino Pedroza is in the irons, and this kid looked good at Turfway early in the year before he was beset by an injury.

Race #9 – #3) City Cool – (3-1)

Exits off a solid 4th place effort at Oaklawn as the beaten favorite. Steve Asmussen trains this runner, and he wins at a crisp 26% with beaten favorites in their last start. He should be a pace factor, and make his presence felt.

It is never too early to get that bankroll started, and I have found that once the season gets rolling, that the field sizes get smaller. So make hay while the sun shines and start planning your Preakness attack. Be sure to check with Winning Ponies to find extra value that you could be leaving on the table. They heat up around  Triple Crown time, and they sizzle even hotter as the Churchill meet gets under way.

Best of luck !!
