Free Winning Ponies Selections / Saturday / 7-6-2013

In racing we count the days by what track is open, and which stake is getting ready to run. For those at home keeping track, we are at the halfway point in the 2013 season. If you want to make the big summer run and take it all the way to the Breeders’ Cup let’s kick it off with a bang this weekend with free selections from the E-Z Win Forms!

Belmont Park

The weather forecast calls for a high of 85 degrees, and only a 10% chance of rain.

Race #9 – The (G-2) Dwyer Stakes – 1 1/16 – 5:17 p.m. ET

#1 – Battier (2-1) = John Velasquez in the irons for trainer Todd Pletcher. They have teamed up to win 17% at Belmont, and 22% on the year. Over a route of ground they roll to the winner’s circle at a hot rate of 34%.This three-year-old son of Tale of the Cat sports the “Moving Up in Class, and  Layoff of 45 Days” icons. His last effort in the Gygistar was contested at 7f in a hot paced affair. The 3/4 was 1:08.4, and he looked tough at the top of the lane. Today he stretches out to 1 1/16, and can be a huge factor in the outcome. He gets Johnny V back in the saddle, and owns a “Last Race Rating 55+, and a Composite Rating of 55.” Both numbers are very solid in the field, as Battier should enjoy being very close to the front of the pack today.

Calder

The weatherman calls for a high of 88 degrees, and a 30% chance of thunderstorms.

Race #10 – The (G-1) Princess Rooney Handicap – 6f – 4:53 p.m. ET

#5 – Judy the Beauty (5-2) = Joao Moreira in the saddle for trainer Wesley Ward. The rider is Singapore’s leading reins-man, and looks good in the saddle. Last out in the G-3 Winning Colors at Churchill, she ran a big effort and was a beaten favorite that day. She carries the “Monster Work, and Moving Up in Class” icons, and should be at her best making her third start this year. Her “Last Race Rating and Composite Rating” are a steamy 61, and she should break just off the speed and pounce at the top of the lane.

Woodbine

The forecast calls for a high of 82 degrees, and a 10% chance of rain.

Race#7 – The $125,000 Charley Barley Stakes – 1 mile on the turf – 3:50 p.m. ET

#6 – Golden Sabre (8-1) = Eurico DaSilva gets the nod for Malcolm Pierce. They are winning at 25% at the Woodbine meet and look like a player today. A lightly raced runner by Medaglia D’ Oro, and an impressive maiden winner over the same course. His “Last Race Rating and Composite Rating” are a solid 63, and his turf rating is a field best of 28.3. Add all that up and I think we have a runner that will have plenty to prove in this race. His connections do good work as a team, and the cut back in distance may seal the deal.
