I made my first trek to ” The Mountain” many moons ago. There was a glitzy casino, and the place vibrated with action. You would hard pressed not to find great food, cold beer, and an exciting atmosphere for gamblers from all walks. Winning Ponies wants to take the guess work out of the day, and here is a free sampling of our E-Z Win Forms to start you off right!

Mountaineer

The weather calls for a high of 75 degrees, and a 70% chance of thunderstorms.

Race #1 – The $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile – 6f – 2:00 p.m. ET

#8 – Joedini (4-5) = DeShawn Parker in the irons for Thom Amoss. Parker is the go-to-guy when you ship in to win at “The Mountain.” He is winning at a solid 23% clip. This son of Bernardini ships in off an impressive win at Indy Downs, and the barn did not bring their main rider Leandro Goncalves.  He sports the “ Moving Up in Class” icon, and his “Last Race Rating” is a field best 54. He won on a good track that day, and I was on hand at Indy to see this impressive romp. If it comes up wet, I wouldn’t get too worried as he handled things quite well that day. I am looking to begin the day chalky.

Race #3 – The $100,000 West Virginia Secretary of State – 6f – 3:00 p.m. ET

#10 Heir Gone Wild (8-1) = Jose Montano gets the nod from trainer Jeff Runco. Montano is 3/3 ITM at Mountaineer, and appears to have a grasp on the track. She sports quite a few handicapping icons:  “Monster Workout, Turf-Dirt, Should Improve, and Moving Up In Class.” – Her “Last Race Rating” is 66+, and her” Composite Rating is a solid 64.” Winning Ponies has the sites locked on a nice price runner who had a brutal trip last out losing the irons on the turf. The big surface switch is noted in the handy icons, and the barn wins 25% and 68% ITM on this change. This is her second off the layoff, and owns a sweet work to show readiness.

Race #7 – The $200,000 West Virginia Governor’s – 1 1/16 – 5:12 p.m. ET

#3 – Taptowne (3-1) = Calvin Borel gets a leg up from trainer Tim Glyshaw. This grey son of Tapit shows the “Monster Work, and Dropping In Class” icons. He makes the drop in class, and cutback in distance from the G-3 Cornhusker at PrM. His “Last Race Rating is 64, and Composite Rating 60.” – He sports plenty of speed, and has the patient Borel holding the reins.

These selections were based on fast track conditions, and if the rain does come. All you have to do is change the track condition tab, and switch to whatever Mother Nature deals out. Mountaineer may or may not be on your list of tracks to follow. Not to worry, as Winning Ponies has your back on West Virginia Derby day. There is a special pick-four on races 5-8, and some of the best riders and trainers will be on hand to take home the cash. So, don’t delay and grab up your E-Z Win Forms. It’s almost post time!
