Saturday afternoon racing shifts to Vinton, Louisiana. They have an 11-race card slated, and handicappers from around the nation will be focused on the $1 Million Dollar Delta Downs Jackpot Day. A field of ten is set to go to post in the G-3 Delta Downs Jackpot, and the winner of Saturday’s main event will earn a $600,000 paycheck, and 10 points toward a possible starting position in next year’s Kentucky Derby ‘Road to the Kentucky Derby’ series. Since 2002, a total of nine horses have participated in the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot before going on to compete in the Kentucky Derby as 3-year-olds. Last year, the race produced a record three Derby starters including: Goldencents, Mylute and Itsmyluckyday.

Delta Downs will offer a special Guaranteed $200,000 Pick 4 on Jackpot Day. The wager has been available during each of the 10 previous editions of the Jackpot Day program. The record payoff for a $2 winning ticket was $22,225.80 in 2006. Last year’s payoff was $843.60 with Goldencents taking the anchor leg in the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot. The minimum wager amount for the Jackpot Day Pick Four is only .50 cents. Here are the races that make up the $200,000 Guaranteed Pick Four:

  • Race 4 – $75,000 Sam’s Town / 3:44 p.m. ET
  • Race 5 – $150,000 Delta Mile / 4:13 p.m. ET

Race #4 – The $75,000 Sam’s Town – 7f – 3:44 p.m. ET

#3 – Runaway Stephen (4-1) = Chris Rosier (18%) in the saddle for Chris Hartman, this son of Stephen Got Even is 3/3 ITM at Delta, and has a nice closing kick that fits the tight turns.

#5 – Heitai (2-1) = Daniel Saenz in the driver’s seat for Karl Broberg (31%). They team up to win 29%, and this son of “Fu Peg” is a horse-for-the-course going 5/5 ITM over the Delta strip. Add is 2/2 ITM going 7f, and that last race win by 18 lengths and you see why he is the morning line chalk.

#7 – Hip Four Sixty Nine (8-1) = Robby Albarado in the irons for Joe Deters, and this colt is 1/1 with a win at Delta. 2/2 ITM at the distance.

Race #5 – The $150,000 Delta Mile –  1 mile – 4:13 p.m. ET

#1 – Agent Di Nozzo (5-2) = Shaun Bridgmohan aboard for Steve Margolis, and they are winning 23% on the year. 2/2 with wins at Delta, and 4/5 ITM going this distance. Cuts back from 1 1/8 at CD, and should enjoy this level of competition.

#3 – Uncaptured (7-2) = Miguel Mena gets the nod from Mark Casse. Cuts back in distance, and drops in from graded company. 1/1 going a flat mile and Mena knows this son of Lion Heart.

#8 – Donoharm (6-1) = Rosie Napravnik up for Bret Calhoun, and they are 1/1 at Delta winning the Sam’s Town last year. Been away since April, and the barn wins 32% with long layoffs. A bullet work signals this son of Lemon Drop Kid is ready.

Race #6 – The (G-III )Delta Princess – 1 mile –4:43 p.m. ET

#3 – Miss Behaviour (2-1) = Sheldon Russell gets the mount for Phil Schoenthal, and this daughter of Jump Start has been awfully tough going 3/4 with wins lifetime and should be a forwardly placed runner.

#6 – Concave (7-2) = Mario Gutierrez gets the call for Doug O’Neill, and they are dropping down from the G-1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. This daughter of Colonel John is 3/4 lifetime, and has shown a versatile side running on turf, poly, and dirt. Second start off the layoff, and they score 17% on this move.

#7 – Appreciating (6-1) = Shaun Bridgmohan in the saddle for Mark Casse, and the barn wins with 24% of two-yr-olds. This daughter of Sky Mesa should come rolling late, and she’ll get moving right before the 1/2 mile mark.

Race #7 – The (G-III) Delta Downs Jackpot – 1 1/16 – 5:15 p.m. ET

#10 – Rise Up (3-1) = Gerard Melancon in the saddle for Thomas Amoss (28%). They are on-fire winning 40% at Delta, and this son of Rockport Harbor won the Jean Lafitte which is a prep for this race. 1/1 at Delta, and should break close to the leaders from the outside, and make a middle race move. He worked a bullet over the deep FG oval to prepare for this event.

#8 – Casiguapo (4-1) = Luis Saez gets the mount for Mario Morales, and this son of Sightseeing is 3 /4 lifetime ITM. Ships in from Belmont, and turned in a bullet work at Calder where he broke his maiden.

#2 – Coastline (5-2) = Shaun Bridgmohan has the mount for Mark Casse. This son of Speightstown is 2 /3 with wins lifetime. The barn wins 24% with babies, and they have teamed to win 26% in 2013. He will be close to the lead, and should be a controlling factor.

Ticket cost = 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 = $40.50 cents for a 50-cent ticket, or $81 for a $1 ticket.
