There is nothing like the cool breeze blowing in from the ocean as you sip a cold one in the sand…. Or, you could be smack-dab in the middle of Mother Nature’s latest fury that is unleashing on the east-coast. Tracks are cancelling, there is little training going on, and the word snow has many of us in a cabin-fever attack. So what’s a gambler to do?? Time for some California dreaming…….

Santa Anita / Saturday

The weather forecast calls for 83 beautiful degrees and sunny!

Race #7 – The $75,000 Sweet Life – 6 1/2f on the turf – 6:50 pm ET

#2 – On the Backstreets (3-1) – Rafael Bejarano(25%) in the saddle for Peter Miller(18%). This daughter of Street Boss is making her second off the layoff, and she exits an impressive win on the downhill course. Her sire is a solid turf producer, and she steps up in class today. Bejarano wins (20%) on the sod, and runners who take to the course usually come back to repeat. She made the transition from the Hollywood synthetic, and is in very good hands today.

Race #8 – The (G-2) Santa Maria – 1 1/16 – 7:24 -pm ET

#3 – Ondine (3-1) –Mike Smith (27%) in the saddle for Bob Baffert (27%), and they are getting it done at a (33%) clip together. This daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro is 4/4 ITM over the SA strip, and definitely makes her a horse-for-the-course. The same goes for the distance, as she makes her second
off the shelf (19%). That was a nice middle-move last out, and she should have plenty in the tank today under “Money-Man” Smith.

Santa Anita / Sunday

The forecast for Arcadia is 77 degrees and partly cloudy.

Race #3 – The $75,000 Baffle Stakes – 6 1/2f on the turf – 4:30 pm ET

#3 – Royal Banker (3-1) -Corey Nakatani in the irons for Eoin Harty. This son of Medicean is making the synthetic to turf transfer, and is 3/4 ITM on the green. His dam Regal Rose has 5 starters with 3 winners. “C Nak” is a (41%) ITM turf rider, and goes from a route to a sprint distance. I like his turf efforts, and he should be a major player today.

Racce #5 – The (G-2) San Vincente – 7f – 5:30 pm ET

#5 – Cherubim (6-1) – Mike Smith (27%) in the driver’s seat for Simon Callaghan (26%). They are winning (67%) at SA, and if you look at his last two races you will see some solid foes. He won at second asking as he was schooled by Indianapolis in his opener, and came back in fine fashion to win by 3 ½ at a big price. This race turned out to be “key” as the second place finisher Chelios came back to win at next asking, and the third place finisher came back two races later to score. This son of Henny Hughes should dictate the pace, and Smith is one of the best money riders in the land. The barn comes back to win (29%) with winners off the last start, and his works have been promising.
