Usually at the beginning of the week, you will be hard pressed to find top notch stables having runners nominated to compete. There are exceptions, if you look very closely.

Trainers target the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday cards. This is not because they like the spotlight, it is because the races they are looking for are carded on these days. Hence, you will see most of the better trainers at the end of the week and weekend.

Today at Beulah, there may be an exception. I was glancing over WinningPonies.com, and found a nice little runner in the 3rd race.

Chance Kyl is 5-2, and comes out of the 10-post. He is trained by William D. Cowans. He goes by “Dougie” to his friends. He is winning at a nice 36% clip this meet. That is a very solid number indeed, where the cheaper horses go to run.  But, sometimes value can be found.

Luis Martinez Jr. has the call, and he is winning at 27%. Add the combo’s numbers together, and you would swear it is Saturday.

Here is the part that sealed the deal for me. This runner is making his second start off of the Poly track at Turfway Park. For horses going back to the dirt, the two off angle has held very solid at the windows. He made an even effort last out, and has 22 wins from 98 starts.

This is a tier 1 runner who has a “Has Improved” banner in his corner. You have to like the trainer-rider combo, and the second effort off of the Poly is the deal maker. I would suggest you consult with the other top-ranked horses in this race, to smack-down the exactas, trifectas, and superfecta. You may want to take a look at the races both coming and going, to take down the Pick-3. I see this as a golden opportunity, and this guy does not run any horse if it is not feeling good. This is something you will not see on paper. It is a little fact that comes from watching him run, and knowing him as a trainer.

I would go early and often to the windows. Kickoff Turkey Day with a cornucopia of cash. This one looks good, and I would make sure to have my information at hand, to capitalize on making a salad of the money you will win.
