Today at Santa Anita, the Pick-6 begins at over $171,000. This translates into big balloons for you to take at shot. Whenever the multi-race exotics have a hot carryover, you can bet the public bets California with both hands.

One of the top things on the “To-do list” is to dial up WinningPonies.com and get a handle on this bear. But before you feel like there is no silver lining to this cloud, we may have an answer or two that will have you chomping at the bit to play the lottery size pool.

How about if we said we could possibly turn it into a Pick-5, or a Pick-4? Sounding better? Well, here are a few thoughts which make this wager even more attractive than ever.

The P-6 begins in Race #4, and it just so happens that there is a runner who needs a glance before going too deep. Let’s examine Monterey Jazz. This 4-year-old colt is 4/5 in the money over the weeds. It just so happens he is traveling a mile on the greensward. He is trained by Craig Dollase who wins 15% of his turf starts. David Flores is the pilot, and he is 39% ITM on the grass. He sports a “Monster Workout” icon, as well as drops in class and has the “Should Improve” banner flying in his corner.

This is a white knuckle speedster that is dropping from G-1 conditions into OC 125,000 company. This is like dropping a rock in the river. He seems to like the turf, and all systems point to a super race. He has the speed ratings that show an improved race is coming, add in the hot work, and best of all, has the best turf figure for the race. All I can say is catch me if you can….This top tier runner should not disappoint today.

In the 8th at SA, there looks to be the single of singles. Let’s play beat the chalk in here. Gander at BSHARPSONATA. The top tier runner in the race who has plenty of pace to chase in this 7f affair. She has a 61 speed rating with a plus sign, which means improvement is on the way. You can bet the public will use Indian Blessing and Indyanne. This is where you can pull away and peel down this wager. Garret Gomez aboard for Pletcher today. Makes the second start off a layoff, and looks to enjoy the synthetic surfaces. In her PP’s, it shows that two-turns may be a little far, but 7 panels could fit her style very nicely.

Now, there it is. Food for thought. You can bet the P-6 will do better than double in size today, and there is no reason why you cannot play. It looks like you may be able to whittle your ticket down in a few key races. This makes it a much smaller ticket and allows you to get in the game. If all goes well, the P-6 will turn into a P-4 today….

Don’t forget to dial up WinningPonies.com to fill in the gap races. This could make 2009 a sweet year to come. Don’t miss your opportunity!
