Friday is Louisville’s day at the races. The Derby is for the fans, but the Oaks is for the locals. The under card is packed, and is always stocked pack full of big action.

The La Troienne isĀ  a great race. Formerly known as the Louisville Stakes, and it will be contested at 1 1/16th for fillies and mares. It was on the same racing program last year that we saw the greatness of Rachel Alexandra strut her stuff for the world. She romped in a 20 plus length victory in the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks in 2009.

Jess Jackson brings her back a year later to run on the under card for the Oaks. She has been tuning up at Fair Grounds in Louisiana to bring her where she is today. She loves Churchill Downs, and trainer Steve Asmussen says she is pretty much close to being 100%. Her workout under Dominic Terry gave her the gas that will be needed for her tank. Rachel has won 11 of 15 starts, and looks to extend that this Friday.
