Preakness StakesThis Saturday, Pimlico holds the second jewel in the Triple Crown. Baltimore offers a chance for runners who skipped Louisville two weeks ago. They come into the 1 3/16ths race fresh, and on a solid work program to ready. But, as good as this sounds, it may be a better plan to select the colts that have competed and gave us a peek as to how they will handle the races.

10- Dialed In – (9-2) Julien Leparoux

Nick Zito rolls into Baltimore with his New York cool attitude. If you think back to the Derby, did you really think he would break DEAD last by so many? I thought he would be back in the field, but not in a different zip code. It almost looked like he ran a race in preparation. I’m not saying he would have held back anything, but he did get a great deal of experience from that race. The way he closed from being 19th was incredible to watch. The jock didn’t empty his tank, and they stand to collect a $5.5 million dollar bonus if he were to win this race, after winning the Holy Bull and the Florida Derby at Gulfstream. His style fits, and with the speed and extra gas in the tank, I think he will surprise many at a square price. He is a closer, and if there is any pace at all, he can make reservations for the winners circle.

9- Mucho Macho Man (6-1) – Rajiv Maragh

This guys should be your iron horse. Two races ago, he lost a shoe at the gate, and you try running to work in one shoe!  If the effort in the Derby showed me anything, it is that he had heart. He finished just behind Nehro to get third. He is a June foal. I know, every horse gets a year older on January 1st….. But, he was born in June, and that makes him an old-two-year-old, or a maturing runner. You decide, and he will improve. Late bloomer, and the right connections converging. I would use him in all of your exotics.

11-Animal Kingdom – (2-1) – John Velasquez

I loved him at Turfway and liked him in the Derby. He has trained at the quiet Fair Hills farm for gentleman trainer Graham Motion. He is ready, and going five wide left him not taking a deep breath after the race. He is so fit, and I think his only undoing will be facing a field of thirteen others. I love him, but don’t get me wrong. Dialed In gets my nod as he chases $5.5 million, and ran an even effort closing to be eighth in the Derby. But I would box both of these scary runners. I am shopping for better odds, and I think I may find it backing the other horse. But use him in everything you wager. He is an animal!

3-King Congie – (20-1)-Robby Albarado

The new rider is Robby Albarado. He was taken off the Derby winner due to an injury, and he comes back looking for payback. This runner came flying late in the Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland, and I think his owners offer the best feel-good story being named after the late Congie DeVito. His late kick has to be respected, and his rider is looking to show who can beat the schoolyard bully. Second time off a layoff, and goes from poly track to dirt. I see him being a factor, and just like the Derby. I see big prices getting into the game……

This race should provide excitement just like the Derby. At the end of the day, just take a good peak at these runners, and toss them any way you like. They are coming in looking good, and the price may be just what the doctor ordered. Post time is 6:18 p.m. / EST, and about two minutes after they load into the gates, we will have answers, and a possible Triple Crown hopeful. So be sure to get your ‘EZ-Win Form’ and get ready for the day. Be sure to check the weather as you always have the weather change tabs for an updated set of selections.

Best of luck !!
