All eyes will be on Hallandale, Florida this weekend. Mother Nature is dealing from the bottom of the deck and most of the country is blanked in sleet, snow, and cold temperatures. This day was created for the “average owner”  and the horses are some of the most competitive runners in the game. There are full-fields for the 15th edition of the Claiming Crown, and a $100,000 Guaranteed Ultimate 8 Wager for the taking. Without further adieu, here are the races that are guaranteed to heat up your Saturday afternoon:

  • $200,000 Jewel, 1 1/8 miles, $35,000 claiming price
  • $125,000 Emerald, 1 1/16 miles (turf), $25,000 claiming price
  • $125,000 Tiara, 1 1/16 miles (turf), fillies and mares, $25,000 claiming price
  • $110,000 Rapid Transit, 7 furlongs, $16,000 claiming price
  • $110,000 Glass Slipper, 7 furlongs, fillies and mares, $16,000 claiming price
  • $110,000 Express, 6 furlongs, $7,500 claiming price
  • $110,000 Iron Horse, 1 1/16 miles, $7,500 claiming price
  • $110,000 Iron Lady, 1 1/16 miles, fillies and mares, $7,500 claiming price

 

Race #4 – The $110,000 Glass Slipper – 7f – 2:07 p.m. ET

#4 – Centrique (2-1) = Javier Castellano in the saddle for Marty Wolfson (27%). This daughter of Malibu Moon is 1/1 at Gulfstream, and makes her third start off a layoff (18%). She worked a bullet in 48.3, and the barn wins 22% with sprints.

 

Race #7 – The $125,000 Tiara Stakes – 1 1/16 on the turf – 3:34 p.m. ET

#6 – Denaallen’skitten (5-2) = Javier Castellano in the irons for Chad Brown (50%). They have teamed to win at a red-hot clip of 21%. This daughter of Kitten’s Joy is 6/6 ITM at Gulfstream Park. She makes her second start off the layoff, and the barn wins 30% on this move. She has been working at Palm Meadows, and she is 16 /18 ITM on the greensward.

 

Race #9 – The $125,000 Crown Emerald – 1 1/16 on the turf – 4:33 p.m. ET

#7 – Alley Oop Oop (15-1) = Jeffrey Sanchez gets the nod for Stanley Gold, and they have been winning 23% as a team in 2013. This son of Monsieur Cat is 2/2 ITM at GP, and was a beaten favorite last out. The barn does very well with non-graded stakes winning 20%.

 

Race #10 – The $200,000 Claiming Crown Jewel – 1 1/8 – 5:03 p.m. ET

#8 – Voodoo Storm (3-1) = DeShawn Parker in town for trainer Tim Glyshaw. They are 2/2 with wins the past month together. Go back four races ago, and you will see he was claimed for $25,000. This son of Storm cat has been looking better with each start after shipping into his new barn. Parker is a very capable pilot, and the barn wins 20% with shippers. he was an impressive winner of the Mountaineer Mile, and he has been getting ready by working over the Churchill Downs oval.
