Everyone loves races on the greensward. There is something about them that separates the day. I have enjoyed race cards of cheap claimers, and the best of what the Breeders’ Cup has to offer.  But grass racing has always held a special place in my heart. Here is a sampling of some grass races using the Winning Ponies E-Z Win Forms.

 

Gulfstream Park 

Race #4 – Alw $58,000 – 5f on the turf – 2:07 p.m. ET

#8 – Determinato (3-1) = Luis Saez in the saddle for trainer William White. This son of Closing Argument is a perfect 8/8 ITM on the turf, and with rain in the forecast he takes to the soft going as well. He owns the “Layoff of 45 Days, and Dropping in Class” icons, and shows a Turf Class Rating of 22. His Last Race Rating of 73, and Composite Rating of 69 are field best figures. He should be very close to the leaders if not dictating the pace himself.

 

Race #10 – The $100,000 Ginger Brew – 1 1/16 on turf – 5:03 p.m. ET

#4 – Wicked Temper (15-1) = Joe Rocco Jr. in the driver’s seat for trainer Dale Romans. This filly by Tapit broke her maiden on a turf rated “good” at Churchill, and she owns the ” Stepping up in Class” icon. She has run on poly, dirt, and turf. – Her LRR and CR are a pair of 53’s, and her Turf Class Rating is 22.3. – Rocco should have her near the lead, and the trainer will have her ready to go off a solid turf work at Palm Meadows.

 

Santa Anita

 

Race #6 – Alw $58,000 – 1 mile on the turf – 6:03 p.m. ET

#8 – Jules Journey (4-1) = Victor Espinoza get the call for James Cassidy who is (32%) ITM as a turf conditioner. This son of Good Journey owns the “Layoff of 45 Days and Monster Workout” handicapping icons. He is a perfect 7/7 ITM on the sod, and his LRR is a staggering 57 ++. When you see the double ++ symbol there is a top effort coming for this runner. Add in the CR of 56 and a TCR of 16.8, and you have a top runner in this field.

 

Race #8 – The (G-2) Monrovia Stakes – 6 1/2f on the turf – 7:05 p.m. ET

#8 – Ponchatrain (2-1) = Gary Stevens (25%) in the irons for Thomas Proctor (38%). This filly by War Front is bred to enjoy the turf and owns the “Monster Workout, Layoff of 45 Days, and Moving up in Class” handicapping icons. Stevens has won at a (29%) clip for the barn this past year, and is a perfect 4/4 ITM this meet. Runners that have taken to the unique downhill turf course usually return to preform well. His TCR is a field best 28.1, and his LRR of 59 and CR of 60 are the best figures in this well matched field. She is 3/4 ITM on the greensward, and should get the overland route to come rolling late in the lane.
