I’ve never made the trip, and it’s still on my bucket list of tracks to visit. I guess I’ve had a good excuse as summertime was always a big-time at the tracks I’ve worked. – But, I digress. I’ve played and enjoyed the races from afar and tried to take in every possible detail. With that in mind, here are some free selections that may make your day a winner!

Saratoga

Race#1 – #6 – Woodline (9-2) = is a two-year-old son of Gun Runner for Steve Asmussen. Previously trained by Tim Hamm who commands the Ohio circuits where I work. He is coming off a 50-day break and showed good early foot last out. His sire is winning 39% with first-time starters, but he had a tough outing on the slop and ran a very game 2nd place effort. I am looking for a gate-to-wire victory as Ricardo Santana wins 21% with early speed and 26% with Asmussen.

Race #7 – #2 – Invincible Gal (3-1) = 3rd time off the layoff move for Graham Motion and gets blinkers today. A solid closer who is dropping in class shipping in from CD, and may improve with added equipment and first-time Lasix. She has tons of back class and has faced much better in her travels. Very dangerous in this spot today.

Race#8 – #2 – Mischievous Alex (2-1) = For this handicapper, this may be a “tap out” bet of the day. Coming off a 56-day break and is cutting back to a sprint. Irad Ortiz is in the saddle for Saffie Joseph and they will be probably planning a stalking trip to pounce on the far turn. Good morning works and the services of Ortiz make me really like this colt in this race. Maybe a good spot for a single in multi-race wagers.

Race#9 – #5 – Essential Quality = This should be the single in all exotic plays for my bankroll coming off a 56-day break for Brad Cox winning 46% at the meet. Luis Saez has the call and they are planning to kick-off a late summer/fall campaign right here. With all of the early speed, he should relish this trip. A very talented son of Tapit.

Race#10 – #8 – Shamrocket (8-1) = Is a late runner from the Pletcher barn with Irad Ortiz. He is 2/3 ITM at the Spa and Ortiz is one of the best finishers in the sport. This son of Tonalist can sit off the pace and stomp on the gas at the right time. Ortiz wins 25% with late-running turf horses and you can bet dollars to donuts he won’t let a pedestrian pace ensue. Look for him at the 5/16th’s pole angling out for clear sailing.

Use these power-plays as a good appetizer when you download the Winning Ponies E-Z Win Forms. – Nothing like a free selection or two to get your inner-horseplayer thinking about the big score. – I’ll make it to the Spa one day, and if you see a fella wearing a black Winning Ponies cap come up and say hello!
