We Have A Winner!

On Saturday, October 4th, history was made in horse racing. This time it wasn’t a marquee runner that has taken the country by storm. It was a New Mexico-bred filly by the name of Pepper’s Pride.

She rolled into history by an unlikely path. She didn’t win H.O.T.Y honors, or take down the Breeders’ Cup Filly event. She gently propelled herself into the books by winning 17 races in a row. This breaks the record of a few name runners you may remember: Cigar, Citation, Hallowed Dream, and Mister Frisky. Not bad company to be mentioned with at all…

Her trainer Joe Allen is very happy, but relieved. She had not raced for 5 months, and her last try at the record was interrupted by a hurricane washout rain.

Jockey Carlos Madeira will be a part of the trivia answer as well, as he guided her 6 furlongs against five other gals attempting to derail her charge. But that was not the case, and we now have the stone cutter etching another name next to the greats.

I guess at the end of the day, $861,665 is nothing to laugh about. It doesn’t matter where you do it; who you beat; only making the grade. Congrats old gal, you are the winner, and we’ll read your name next to the greats in racing history.
