Since 1863, the sleepy town of Saratoga Springs comes to life. That is if you are a racing fan and love the sport of kings. Once upon a time, the area allowed one to recline and rejuvenate with the healing waters of the natural springs. You can still visit the historic landscape, but I would make your trek prior to post time. But if you will be watching and wagering from your location, you are in the right spot. Saratoga

The weatherman calls for a high of 91 degrees, and a 30% chance of a storm.

 

Race #4 – The $100,000 On The Bus Stakes – 1 1/16 on the turf – 2:36 p.m. ET

#3 – Hessonite (6-5) = John Velasquez and David Donk team up together, and this is a very nice horse-for-the-course. This daughter of Freud is 3/4 with wins over the Saratoga green. Two of the last three races were on very soft, yielding courses. I think if the ground is bit firm, this gal should relish the going. She does very well facing New York company, and I feel the barn will start the meet on a high note. Look for her to lay off the pace and move into contention at the top of the lane.

 

Race #7 – Alw $82,000 – 7f – 4:14 p.m. ET

#11 – Ithastobegeorge (15-1) = J.J. Castellano in the irons for Thomas Morley. He is fresh off a claim, and sports a hot bullet work at Belmont. He has faced some tough guys with Vyjack, and Declan’s Warrior. He shows natural speed, and I would look for the rider to have him forwardly placed to escape the #11 post. Castellano left Belmont on-fire, and hopefully he will bring the heat upstate. If he gets to the front solo, it could be big balloons!!

 

Race #8 – The G-3 James Marvin – 7f – 4:47 p.m. ET

#4 – Sage Valley (5-1) = Cornelio Velasquez in the saddle for Rudy Rodriguez. R.R. has been on fire, going 5/6 ITM the last week. This colt is 1/1 ITM at the Spa, and makes the down from G-2 company. I am looking for an early chase from this guy and for him to begin to make the move down the lane. I like the rider/trainer team, and the colt is named at a solid price.

 

Race #9 – The G-3 Schuylerville Stakes- 8f – 5:20 p.m. ET

# 1A – Yes Liz – (5-2) = Johnny V aboard for Todd Pletcher. The “Todd-Squad” should do their self proud, as these guys have worked together for quite awhile. This daughter of Yes It’s True looks to be solid, as she broke her maiden impressively at Belmont. Two works back was a bullet over the deep Oklahoma training course. I look for Johnny V to sit just off the pace, and make a big run outside the quarter pole.
