If you didn’t have the winner of the Derby or Preakness; you are not alone. Most horse racing fans are coming up empty in chat rooms, social media, and in person. – I wasn’t even close. – But don’t despair. In three weeks, we get another guessing contest.

After Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby lighting up the tote board. I wasn’t too distraught. – I know the trainer Eric Reed, jockey Sonny Leon, and even the workout rider Gabriel Lagunes. They race at the track I work, and I enjoy seeing one or more every day I walk into the jockey’s room. – Great guys all around and the dream of a lifetime is worth the loss of my few bucks. No sweat. History was made.

The Preakness looked like it was going to be pretty chalky. I was almost sure the odds-on favorite would romp away and put on a display heading into the Belmont. Epicenter put on a good show coming off the pace after getting squeezed at the start but came up empty in the final yards as lightly raced Early Voting passed on the Derby to focus on this race. OK, another blackeye for the Triple Crown for me, but I look forward to the Belmont.

It will be three weeks. Three weeks to wait, watch workouts, as there will be defectors who come up tired, not up to snuff, or just need a break. – I’m starting to think I’ll just bet a few bucks on Rich Strike and root for my friends. Just think, if I would have bet my $10 to win on him in Louisville, it would be a whole different blog about the Triple Crown.

I’m confused and feel like I’m on a non-stop roller coaster. You have any of these feelings? – Not to worry. When you are stuck trying to find your own method to the madness, just try something new. Winning Ponies top selection was Early Voting, and he rewarded the public with a $13.40 winner! – OK, I’ve changed my plan.
