The dog days of summer will soon be cooling down as the sweet smell of autumn will arrive in seasonal fashion. But wait, there is one helluva weekend of racing as we turn for home heading for Labor Day! Winning Ponies has been on-fire at Saratoga this summer, and we want you to finish out this historic meet on a winning note.

The weather calls for temperatures in the 80’s, and a 40% chance of rain.

 

Race #7 – Alw $82,500 – 6f – 4:06 p.m. ET

#4 – Gombey Dancer (7-2) = Cornelio Velasquez in the saddle for Tony Dutrow, and they are winning 24% in this last year. This 3-yr-old son of Dixie Union carries the “Monster Workout, Should Improve, and Moving up in Class” icons to note his direction. His Last Race Rating of 58+ is the field best number, and his Composite Rating is a solid 57. He appears to be a versatile runner, and his current form should have him stalking just off the front runners. The last posted work shows he is focused and ready to romp.

 

Race #8 – The G-2 Bernard Baruch Handicap – 1 1/16 on the turf – 4:38 p.m. ET

#7 – Silver Max (9-5) = Robby Albarado gets the nod from the Dale Romans barn. His Last Race Rating is a 71, and his Composite Rating is 69 and his Turf Rating is a hot 35.9. This son of Badge of Silver owns the “Moving up in Class, and Monster Workout” icons. His impressive win in the Oceanport gives a confident look, and Romans has a had a quiet summer at the Spa. I think they are looking for travelling money as the meet is coming to a close.

 

Race #12 – O.C. $50,000 – 6f – 6:50 p.m. ET

#7 – Confrontation (8-1) = Rajiv Maragh is up for Barclay Tagg, and they are 1/1 at the Spa this summer. He owns the “Moving up in Class” icon and his Last Race Rating is a 59. He has an impressive maiden win, and the second trip over should give him an extra boost.
