Hump Day is a perfect time to get ready for the weekend, but this Wednesday is a super opportunity to watch and wager on some great turf racing. We are going to examine races at Belmont and Kentucky Downs. All you need to do is find a cool place and watch some hot action!

Belmont Park

The weather calls for 90 degrees, and a 20% chance of rain

Race #6 – Mdn Claiming $40,000 – 6f on the turf -4:13 p.m. ET

#2 – So Royal (2-1) = Alex Solis gets the call for Lisa Lewis. 2nd start off the layoff for this daughter of Chapel Royal, and was a beaten favorite last out. This stone-cold speedster draws the #1 post, and should dictate the pace in this affair. The stretch in distance, and the rail makes her ultra tough.

Race #8 – O.C. $62,500 – 1 1/16 on the turf – 4:45 p.m. ET

#4 – Hothersal (2-1) = John Velasquez up for Todd Pletcher, and this runner has not been to the races in over a year. This son of Smart Strike is 3/3 ITM at the distance and 3/4 ITM on the green. He runs well off a long rest, and makes a sharp drop down from graded company.

Race #9 – Claiming $35,000 – 1 1/16 on the turf – 5:17 p.m. ET

#1 – Yo Blue (5-2) = Junior Alvarado in the irons for David Jacobson. Yes, he was claimed last out and the barn wins 25% with fresh runners in the stable. 3/3 with wins at the distance, and 4/4 ITM over the course. The rider and trainer are winning 38% this last month, and they look to be effective with this entry today.

Kentucky Downs

The weatherman calls for 91 degrees, and a 30% chance of storms

Race #1 – Mdn Claiming $25,000 – 1 and 70 yards on the turf – 2:35 p.m. ET

#1 – Thaaats Right (5-1) = Miguel Mena in the driver’s seat for Ronny Werner. Has not raced for three months, and turned in a solid work going 4f. A beaten favorite last out, and draws the rail as a speedy pacesetter. When a runner returns over 90 days away, Werner comes back to score 20% of the time.

Race #3 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6 1/2f on the turf – 3:35 p.m. ET

#7 – Boom Boom Vroom (7-2) = David Flores and Wesley Ward team up, and they have been racking up some travelling miles together. Ships in from the Spa, and Ward wins 25% on this move. Two very nice works at Keeneland to get him legged up, and his dam has 6 wins from 8 starters of which two were on the weeds.

Race# 7 – Alw $96,000 – 6f on the turf – 5:35 p.m. ET

#8 – Shrinking Violet (2-1) = Wesley Ward and David Flores team up here, and this may be my play of the day if the odds stay close. She is 1/1 at KyD, and returning winners have an edge. Has not raced in 47 days, and her style looks to be up close and run down the long stretch. Makes the stretch-out from 5f – 6f, but not to worry as she has won at this distance.
